Architects have a fascination with chairs. Many renowned 20th century architects are known as much for their chairs as they are their architecture, from Le Corbusier to Mies Van Der Rohe, Eero Saarinen and many others. Furniture design allows architects to design and build on a smaller scale. Furniture can be tested and built quickly. Buildings, on the other hand, take years to design and build.
We have compiled some of our favorite chairs from makers working today and designers of past decades. A handful of these chairs can be found at the Hudson Woods model house.
